yoooooooo just got setup with @itchio automatically deploying from our game dev server. It was super straightforward, Valve should frankly be embarresed at to sorry state of steamcmd on the CI

@freddieGilbraith @itchio What issues did you have with steamcmd that worked better with itch? Just that it's obscure to setup initially?
Just curious. I've done quite a bit of CI with Steam but haven't tried on itch yet.

@julienbarnoin with steam I had to spend days figuring out how to cache the auth key into my CI cache. Which I could only do by actually logging in on the server. None of my attempts to put a key in an EnvVar worked.

With itch I just stuck a key in an EnvVar, download their CLI on the sever, and run the command, it just worked

Also, itch just takes a folder path and an app ID to put it in, none of this vdf depots nonsense

@freddieGilbraith ah alright I see what you mean. I didn't have that issue on my steam projects cause I ran the CI system on a dedicated build machine so I was able to just set things up on the specific environment and it wouldn't be reset or anything.
Not up to current methods for sure but it mostly worked fine, save for the occasional time when SteamGuard decided it wanted me to revalidate the machine with a manually input code.

@julienbarnoin ahh, that would be easier! yeah, steamcmd isn’t coming to my house and punching my wife, but it does still leave a lot to be desired

@freddieGilbraith Haha, I never thought about it in those terms but now you said that you got me worried about steamcmd being installed on a computer at home... Should I lock the computer room at night just to be safe? 😰

@julienbarnoin it happened to my uncle who worked at Nintendo, it could happen to anyone!
